Former Ohio House speaker playing key role in 2016 GOP convention

Jessica Wehrman in the Washington Bureau is reporting that former Ohio House Speaker Jo Ann Davidson will serve as a co-chair of the Republican National Committee’s Committee on Arrangements – the RNC’s committee tasked with planning and managing the 2016 Republican National Convention, which will be held in Cleveland from July 18 through 21.

Davidson will chair the committee along with Wisconsin National Committeeman Steve King, RNC Chair Reince Priebus announced Friday.

Davidson served on the RNC National Committee since 2004, serving as co-chair from 2005 through 2009. She is currently on the Board of Trustees at the University of Findlay and at Franklin University.

“I am thrilled to announce Steve and Jo Ann will spearhead our efforts to organize a successful national convention,” Priebus said. “Steve and Jo Ann are strong leaders who have dedicated their lives to this party and have the experience to lead and organize an event of this magnitude and importance. I’m confident that with Steve as chairman and Jo Ann as co-chairman, the 2016 convention is in good hands, and will help us launch our next Republican presidential nominee on the road to the White House.”

Separately Friday, the Democratic National Committee announced that they will hold their convention the week of July 25. The DNC is still in the process of selecting its site and will choose between Columbus, Brooklyn and Philadelphia.
