Jordan part of new House Freedom Caucus

Our Washington Bureau Chief Jack Torry is reporting that Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, and about 30 other House Republican conservatives have decided to call their new conservative organization the House Freedom Caucus, with the goal of nudging House Speaker John Boehner, R-West Chester, into a more conservative direction.

The group was formed as an alternative to the much larger Republican Study Committee, which once housed the most conservative members of the U.S. House. In addition to Jordan, the new organization features some of the House's best-known conservative Republicans -- Matt Salmon of Arizona, Justin Amash of Michigan, John Fleming of Louisiana and Scott Garrett of New Jersey. No word yet on which lawmaker will be picked to lead this new group.
