Lawmakers make a mad dash to the finish in lame duck session

The Ohio House voted 69-16 in favor of Senate changes to a gun bill that will reduce training requirements for carrying a concealed weapon permits, mandate a more robust background check for CCW applicants and allow hunters to use noise suppression devices while hunting birds and game animals.

The House and Senate are slated to vote on a ban on traffic cameras, legalization of consumer fireworks, creation of a sales tax holiday in August for back-to-school shoppers and more.

They will also take on less weighty matters: a specialty license plate honoring beekeepers of Ohio, naming highways and picking March as Ohio Maple Syrup Products month.
