E-poll books approved

County boards of election may begin moving ahead in purchasing e-pollbooks. The Ohio Legislature this year allocated $12.7 million to help cover about 85 percent of the cost in each county.

E-pollbooks would replace the printed books now used in all but 21 Ohio counties. Those 21 are eligible to use the state grant to recoup part of the costs they've already incurred, according to the news release from Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted.

"Boards of Election around the state are excited to begin acquiring and deploying electronic pollbooks," said Aaron Ockerman, executive director of the Ohio Association of Election Officials.

"This proven technology holds the promise of a better voting experience for our voters and greater efficiencies for local boards of elections."

Locally Montgomery, Warren and Butler counties already use the e-pollbooks.
