Sittenfeld raises money in Big Apple for U.S. Senate race

Democratic U.S. Senate candidate P.G. Sittenfeld was in New York last week for a fundraiser hosted by Jennifer Diamond, whose husband Bob was caught up in a scandal involving the British bank Barclays.

Diamond resigned as CEO of Barclays in July 2012, one week after the bank was fined for trying to manipulate inter-bank lending rates in what is commonly known as the Libor scandal. A New York Times story on Diamond’s life now reports that he was largely pushed out of the role by the British government.

A spokesman for Sittenfeld, a Cincinnati city councilman, said Bob Diamond did not participate in the event.

Jennifer Diamond has also contributed to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., President Barack Obama, Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Some Democrats urged Sittenfeld, 30, to get out of the 2016 Senate race after former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland announced he is running. The seat is held by Republican Rob Portman, who is running for re-election.
