Bids for Dayton airport building roof replacement due this Thursday

DAYTON — The city has given roofing companies an additional week to submit bids for replacement of a leaky roof atop the Dayton International Airport’s terminal building.

Bids were originally to be submitted by last Thursday, but city officials extended the deadline until this Thursday after contractors said they needed more time to prepare estimates for the job.

City officials have projected that the job could cost about $1 million.

In another matter, the airport administration anticipates that a contractor demolishing the old Dayton Airport Hotel will need several more weeks to finish the job. There were complications because the hotel had to be razed while sparing an adjoining training center used by Dayton-based PSA Airlines, said Terrence G. Slaybaugh, Dayton’s director of aviation.

The city hired demolition contractor Steve R. Rauch Inc. last year under a $961,000 contract to raze the 40-year-old hotel, which is to make way for a new parking lot.
