YS Brewery sets date for grand re-opening

Newly expanded brewing system will allow bottling, canning

The Yellow Springs Brewery will host a grand re-opening of its new brewhouse this Saturday, Sept. 19, and is expected to release its first canned beers at retail outlets by the end of the year, its co-owners announced.

The brewery’s production facility has been closed for two months while its owners expanded and upgraded its brewing equipment, although the tap room remained open.

Public tours are scheduled for 3 p.m. and at 4 p.m. Saturday to show off the new brewing system, which boosted production capacity fivefold. Plans call for canning the brewery’s Captain Stardust Saison and Zoetic American Pale Ale, for release later this year.

“Ever since we opened we haven’t been able to keep up with our thirsty customers,” brewery co-owner Nate Cornett said in a release. “Now we finally can meet the demand, and find new people across Ohio to share our beer with.”

The new equipment in Yellow Springs Brewery’s 6,700-square-foot facility includes nine 30-barrel stainless steel fermentation tanks, with an additional three 15-barrel tanks for smaller batches. Plans call for producing 2,000 barrels, or about 62,000 gallons, of beer in in 2016, and for expanding further into the Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati markets.

Founded in 2013 at 305 N. Walnut St. in the village, Yellow Springs Brewery added about 1,600 square feet of space to its existing brewery and tasting room with the expansion.
