Gas prices drop more than 10 cents

Local gas prices have dropped more than 10 cents in the past week as the average price dropped to $1.53 a gallon in Dayton and Cincinnati areas, according to GasBuddy.com

Prices in the Dayton/Springfield area were $1.64 a gallon a week ago and $1.91 a month ago. Gas prices were $1.67 a week ago in the Cincinnati area and $1.92 a month ago.

The lowest price in the Dayton area today is $1.40 a gallon at Murphy USA, 1701 W. Dorothy Lane. In Middletown, the lowest price was $1.47 a gallon at Kroger, 428 Oxford State Road. In Springfield, cheapest gas is $1.49 a gallon at Marathon, 4000 S. Yellow Springs St.

Nationally, the average price of gasoline has plunged 14 cents over the past two weeks, to $1.91 a gallon.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday that with the latest decline the price is the lowest it’s been in seven years.

Lundberg says the price drop may soon end as crude costs start going up again.

The current gas price is 16 cents per gallon under its year-ago point.

In the Lower 48 states, the highest average price of regular gasoline was $2.80 per gallon in Los Angeles. The lowest was $1.48 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The U.S. average diesel price is $2.19 per gallon, down about 12 cents from two weeks ago.
