Mason mental health center expands eating disorder program

A mental health center here has expanded its services for adults struggling with eating disorders.

The Lindner Center of HOPE last week expanded its partial hospitalization program for adult patients by adding additional hours Monday through Friday, said Jennifer Pierson, spokeswoman at Lindner Center.

The eating disorder partial hospitalization program at the Mason facility is now from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The partial hospitalization program previously operated from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“The purpose is to be able to include supported breakfast and dinner; before it was only lunchtime,” Pierson said. “We’ll monitor weight and vital signs during the day. It enhances the program already in place.”

The program’s average length of stay is four to six weeks, but is based on individual progress toward established goals, according to Pierson.

Goals of the partial hospitalization program include weight restoration; nutritional support and planning; instruction of cognitive coping skills; and assisting patients in the management of their disease and symptoms in order to step-down to outpatient services.

The program features supported breakfast, lunch and dinner; monitored physical status of weight and vital signs; supportive individual therapy; nutritional and meal-planning support; specialized group therapy; and family support and education.

“These illnesses are ones that require constant maintenance; it’s very common a person can struggle for a very long time,” Pierson said.

The facility, located at 4075 Old Western Row Road, has the capacity for 10 patients at a time in its eating disorder partial hospitalization program. For more information, individuals may call 513-536-4673.
