The wine bar was a long time coming: The Gonyas initially applied for a license to serve alcohol in August 2009, and were denied by the state in part because Dayton City Commission objected to it, citing residents’ desire to limit the number of liquor licenses in the neighborhood. The Gonyas appealed in Franklin County Common Pleas Court and lost. Earlier this year, however, the Oregon Historic District association voted to abolish a cap on liquor licenses, and the Gonyas were able to obtain one.
Leslie Gonya said she is planning a grand opening for the wine bar and shop from 4 to 8 p.m. on July 14, when two other new Oregon District businesses — District Antiques at 122 Van Buren St. and Envision-Works, 510 E. Fifth St. — are also holding grand openings.
The wine bar will be open 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, offering a rotating selection of eight to 10 wines available in 3-ounce or 6-ounce pours. Light-fare food will also be available. For more information, call (937) 225-9463.
