Free home weatherization services are available to income-qualified homeowners with household income up to 300 percent of federal poverty guidelines. That’s through Vectren’s Project TEEM coordinated by the Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area. See: www.vectren.com/conservation or call 1-866-240-8476.
Vectren Energy Delivery is launching a new rebate program for ratepayers willing to add attic and wall insulation or seal air leaks.
The natural gas utility said Tuesday that gas customers can receive rebates for up to $700 for wall insulation and up to $600 for attic insulation. A rebate of up to $250 is available for air sealing. Vectren serves 315,000 Ohio customers, all in the Dayton region.
The insulation rebate program picks up where the rebate for efficient water heaters ended at the end of 2012.
To qualify for the insulation program, the homeowner must be:
• A Vectren natural gas customer in Ohio.
• Own the home on which the insulation and/or sealing services will be done.
• Have the insulation and/or sealing services completed by one of the program-approved contractors, which can be found at Vectren.com/conservation or by calling call 1-866-240-8476.
The insulation upgrade should reward homeowners in a short period. “This pays for itself quickly,” Vectren spokeswoman Chase Kelley said.
Vectren said its list of contractors continues to grow as more sign up and are-approved. Vectren began energy efficiency rebate programs in 2008.
The Department of Energy has estimated that only 20 percent of homes built before 1980 are considered well-insulated, said Colleen Ryan, president of Vectren Energy Delivery. “These types of weatherization services will reduce energy bills by up to 25 percent in addition to increasing the home’s value,” she said.
Insulation or sealing services done on or before Feb. 24 do not qualify, Vectren said.
