Brick 2-story enhanced with versatile floor plan, finished basement
Contributing writer
Traditional styling adds a comfortable timelessness to the open floor plan in the brick, two-story home at 673 Sedgwick Way.
The home sits on a choice lot of more than a half-acre in Troy’s Stonebridge Estates, where views of the large L-shaped pond are enjoyed from the sunroom, the patio and the upper-level deck. Its finished full basement brings the amount of living space to about 5,015 square feet.
Quality workmanship is evident in custom millwork and built-ins. Canadian maple hardwood flooring extends through a large portion of the main floor, giving way to inset neutral carpet in the great room and bedrooms.
“The floor plan (provides) a nice arrangement with an open gathering area where you feel you can be a part of everything,” said Shirley Snyder of Galbreath Realtors. Snyder has listed this home for $714,900.
Inside the two-story entry, a boxed window above the front door follows the lines of the exterior arched stone entrance. Richly stained spindles and handrail edge the bi-directional staircase, which has a tall boxed window and arched transom at its landing. The railing continues along the upper-level open walkway, which overlooks the entry and the two-story great room.
A wide arched opening leads into the formal dining room, where two large windows with transoms are dressed in custom-made valances and matching drapes.
A vaulted ceiling with skylights rises two stories above the great room, where the angled fireplace is framed in a custom-designed mantel featuring corbels, rope trim and fluting. Tall windows flank the door to the stamped concrete patio with an overhead pergola supported by round columns.
Double archways frame openings to the morning room and open kitchen. Boxed windows fill three walls of the morning room, which also has direct access to the patio.
Creamy ivory cabinets with upper moldings and rope trim complement the granite counters and stainless-steel appliances in the kitchen. At the entrance to the kitchen an angled peninsular breakfast bar is tiered above a work counter installed with the double sink and dishwasher.
Small corbels accent the millwork hiding the vent above a five-burner smooth-surface cooktop. Microwave and standard ovens are stacked together near a coffee station under display cabinets. A wide wine rack is installed above the refrigerator near the full-sized pantry.
A hallway leading from the kitchen to the garage accesses the half-bath and the laundry room. A coat closet sits near the entrance to the oversized, two-car garage, which has finished walls, an epoxy-painted floor and a raised area for storage.
Triple windows in the main-floor bedroom suite offer a view of the pond. In the bath the jetted oval tub is angled under two skylights. A glass door encloses the separate shower. Double vanities with granite counters incorporate a central makeup station and custom towel shelves. Wood shelving surrounds the walk-in closet.
“It’s a good house for any age, because the master and laundry area are on the main floor, and there is a finished lower level,” Snyder said.
Echoing the décor of the upper level, the finished basement uses a combination of wood flooring and neutral carpet. In the dedicated media area, a row of custom-built cabinets hides sound system equipment in an alcove sized for a large screen TV.
Near the angled fireplace a passthrough window with a granite counter connects to the dining area opposite the bar, which features a semi-circular granite counter for seating. Pocket doors enclose a versatile room, which is currently used for exercise, but it could be a second kitchen or guest room. Near the full bath with tub and shower is a bedroom with double closets and an egress window.
Three more bedrooms and a full bath are located on the upper level. One bedroom with two skylights and dormer window space has direct access to the bath.
Snyder called attention to the backyard privacy. “The way the house is positioned, there is a sense of privacy on the covered patio.”
