Smoking ban fines
in the Miami Valley
Most Ohio businesses comply with the state’s smoking ban, but the majority of those caught breaking the law aren’t paying their fines. Reporters Jackie Borchardt and Jessica Heffner compiled their own database from state documents to determine which establishments have been fined, how much they have paid and how much they still owe.
Use the map and searchable database below to explore their data from Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Warren counties from 2007 through August 2013. Click on map markers for more information about the establishment.
