The Times reports that the eight-episode reboot, called "Anne," may be "edgier" than previous adaptations because Moira Walley-Beckett, who worked on "Breaking Bad," wrote the new series.
The show, which is being produced by Northwood Entertainment and directed by Niki Caro, will air on CBC in Canada and on Netflix worldwide next year, Entertainment Weekly reports.
