Liven up the doldrums of a gray winter with vibrant works of art, creative conversations, gourmet appetizers and live music. The 10th annual Art at the Trace is set for Saturday evening at the Yankee Trace Golf Club.
It is sponsored by the Centerville Arts Commission. Twenty-five local and regional artists will have fine art available for sale.
Every year, event organizers choose a featured artist. Cecilia Brendel of Centerville was tapped for this year’s party. She specializes in Old Masters’ style oil paintings and recently had a solo show at the Art Gallery of the Centerville Police Department. She is donating “Poppies in Argenteuil,” which is valued at $250, for the 8 p.m. raffle.
“I feel very honored and grateful that they’ve asked me to showcase my work among all the other great artists,” said Brendel, who owns the Olde Masters Galleria, 25 Iron Gate Park Drive, Centerville. “It’s wonderful to be part of a community that is supporting their fellow artists.”
There will be a wide variety of art available, including paintings, photography, sculpture, jewelry, glass art and mixed media works.
Cathy Pearson of Centerville was last year’s featured artist. She’ll be there again this year with her contemporary floral paintings and other works.
“The event is always jammed with a wide variety of art and several hundred art lovers and collectors, who lift the gloom of Ohio winter with great food, spirits and art for every taste,” said Pearson. “For $10, you’ll have a great ‘dinner,’ see friends and art and look at February in a new, improved way.”
Gourmet appetizers include spiced meatballs, coconut fried shrimp, pecan chicken tenders, and artichoke/goat cheese balls. A cash bar will be available for wine, beer, or cocktails. Live music will be provided by the Deron Bell Trio.
Last year’s event drew 260 art enthusiasts and raised about $3,400. Tickets are available at the City Municipal Building, 100 W. Spring Valley Road; Centerville Framing and Gifts, 270 N. Main St., and Yankee Trace.
“We believe the arts are an important economic driver for our community,” said CAC event chairwoman Ginny Strausburg. “This gives our local artists a venue to present and sell their work with no fee for space and no commission of any kind.”
