Theo Von was simply the wisecracking southern boy when he first appeared on MTV’s “Road Rules” in 2000. Like many of his reality show contemporaries, the Louisiana native could’ve easily faded away after his 15 minutes of fame but he was able to take that momentum from his first major TV exposure and turn it into a three-pronged show business career.
Von, performing at the Funny Bone Comedy Club in Beavercreek Friday through Sunday, Aug. 2-4, is now a full-time comedian, a frequent reality show participant and an in demand host for a variety of projects.
Stand-up guy: While “Road Rules” was doing a season dedicated to a Semester at Sea, one of the show’s producers convinced Von to try an open mike on the ship. He found he had a knack for stand-up comedy and began developing a style that now ranges from topical and personal to subtle dissections of pop culture figures. On July 8, Von released the comedy album “Little People vs. Cats,” which is available at iTunes.
Reality TV regular: Von was on season four of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” in 2003. While he didn’t win the grand prize, his talent and popularity were confirmed when he was voted back on the program as a fan favorite. Some of his other reality show credits include competitor in “Battle of the Network Reality Stars” in 2005, panelist on “America’s Prom Queen” in 2008 and a contestant on “Reality Bites Back” in 2008.
Host with the most: In 2012, the multi-tasking performer became the host of “Primetime in No Time” on Yahoo.com. The daily recap of popular primetime television programs is the most successful original video series online with more than 500-million streams. He is also the host of the new hidden camera program “Deal With It,” which premiered on TBS on July 17. The series, produced by Howie Mandel, airs Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m.
