Garth Brooks performed before a sold-out crowd at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday.

“I was lucky enough to be an athlete and to wear the same uniform as this guy wore in college. I was lucky to go to school with him. You guys got the greatest player in NFL history in my opinion in this jersey. I love this man," Garth Brooks said in front of a sold out Ford Field on Saturday night (Feb. 22).

What happened next was absolutely hilarious! A large number of social media users misinterpreted Brooks’ Instagram post thinking that he was endorsing presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders, for the upcoming 2020 election.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? I am appalled by the fact that there are so many people out there that have no idea who the greatest player to ever wear a Lions uniform and, arguably, the greatest running back in NFL history is. The jersey Garth was sporting belonged to NFL Hall of Fame running back, BARRY Sanders, who wore number 20 for the Detroit Lions from 1989-1998. BARRY Sanders, not BERNIE (insert laughing emojis).

Garth and BARRY Sanders took it upon themselves to have a little fun with the confused fans on Twitter.
