Bacon-flavored wings make debut in Dayton

The bacon craze has claimed another dish: Wing Zone, which has two Dayton-area locations, has unveiled a new bacon-flavored chicken wing sauce it calls “BBQ Bacon Nirvana,” along with two other new flavors: Mango Fire and Cinnamon Maple.

Florida-based Wing Zone has two Dayton-area locations: 5568 Airway Road near Wright State University, and 5744 N. Springboro Pike (Ohio 741) in the Moraine-Miami Twp. area. The wing chain operates restaurants in 25 states.

“Bacon is really hot right now,” Wing Zone marketing director Dan Corrigan said in a phone interview. “There are certain people out there who are bacon fanatics, and I myself am one of them.”

In developing the bacon-flavored wing sauce, “We wanted to take advantage of something no one else was doing,” Corrigan said. Although the sauce has bacon flavoring, there is no pork in the sauce, he said. The company’s marketing slogan for the new sauce is, “The doors to BBQ Heaven open majestically with the taste of bacon.”

The Mango Fire sauce packs a punch of spicy heat and was the result of a Facebook contest reader suggestion, Corrigan said, while the Cinnamon Maple flavor is designed to evoke the flavors of chicken and waffles.

The new wing-sauce flavors became available Monday in the Dayton area, Corrigan said.
