New steakhouse coming to West Carrollton

A Lebanon-based restaurant will open a second location at 2098 S. Alex Road in West Carrollton —the site of the former Grub Steak restaurant.

The Patriot Steakhouse & Tavern in Lebanon has signed a lease for the space just west of the I-75-Ohio 725 interchange and the Dayton Mall and will open a second restaurant under the same name there, according to restaurant co-owner Greg Carter.

The new restaurant owned by Carter and his wife Meri-Ellyn will seat about 160 and will employ 30 to 35 people, Carter said. “We’re shooting for a soft opening in late September,” Carter said.

Carter said he was attracted by the site’s location and traffic. It is far enough away from the flagship Patriot Steakhouse to avoid cannibalizing business from the Lebanon location, he said. The original Patriot Steakhouse & Tavern seats 140 and opened in January 2011 at 1525 Genntown Drive just north of U.S. 42 and the Route 48 bypass in Lebanon.

Prior to opening his own restaurant, Carter worked in the industry for three decades, including stints with the Longhorn Steakhouse and Shells Seafood restaurant chains. He said he is looking to open a third restaurant in the region, possibly with a seafood-focused menu.

The Grub Steak closed in February 2013 after being in business for 50 years — the first 45 in Dayton, and the last five in the West Carrollton location.
