Springboro restaurant to reopen next week

The owners of a downtown Springboro restaurant that closed last fall are poised to reopen it with a similar name but a new concept.

The Soooo Good Bar & Grill, at 75 N. Main St., may have its "soft" opening as early as this weekend, according to Shawnette Hixon-Hadfield, who co-owns the restaurant with her husband, Jim Hadfield.

“If that goes well, we’ll have a real grand opening, perhaps the following week,” Hixon-Hadfield said.

The couple opened Soooo Good Gourmet Cafe in the same space one year ago. But the breakfast-and-lunch restaurant didn’t generate enough business, especially during breakfast hours, so the couple closed it in late 2013, Hixon-Hadfield said. Her customers wanted a dinner option, and she and her husband decided on the bar-and-grill concept. It took longer than anticipated — about 12 weeks — to obtain a full liquor license, she said.

The new restaurant has hired a chef: Aaron Brown, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1991-99 and attended Forest Park Culinary School under the GI Bill. Brown has worked at multiple restaurants in New Orleans, St. Louis and Santa Barbara.

The menu at Soooo Good Bar & Grill “will not be typical bar food,” Hixon-Hadfield said. It will include six signature burgers, including one with pulled-pork patties and another that will consist of a burger nestled between two grilled-cheese sandwiches on Texas Toast. Other burgers will be served on a choice of brioche, pretzel or gluten-free buns, she said. Salads and appetizers such as a Carnitas Taco Trio and queso dip will also be available.

The restaurant seats 75 inside, and another 30 on a patio, Hixon-Hadfield said. It will employ seven.

Hixon-Hadfield, who with her husband operates concessions for auto races and golf tournaments, said she has launched a catering business associated with the new restaurant. The Springboro residents said the restaurant will be “heavily involved” with local sports teams and fund-raising events for local non-profit organizations, she said.

After it opens fully to the public, Soooo Good Bar & Grill will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
