Los Angeles County firefighters were called to the park at around 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Flames collapsed one crest of the wooden coaster as fire hoses trained streams of water on it.

The fire was doused in about a half-hour.

The park north of Los Angeles was closed at the time of the blaze and there's no word on what sparked it.

Colossus was the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster when it opened in 1978, at 125 feet tall and 62 mph.

It closed last month and will be converted into a modernized wood and steel coaster.
