Human Race Theatre offers wine, women, song

What/when/where: The Human Race Theatre presents Celebration x3: "Wine, Women and Song." The gala event will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on April 30 on the second floor of the former Fifth Third Bank Building, 110 N. Main St., Dayton.

Why are they celebrating? The fundraiser will kick off the theatre's 25th anniversary season. The professional company regularly presents live theater ranging from classics to regional and world premieres, and also hosts musical theater workshops. Educational programming includes summer camps and outreach events for challenged individuals.

What's in store? The evening includes food, cash bar, door prize drawings and performances by Deb Colvin-Tener and Lisa Biales.

Colvin-Tener, a resident artist with The Human Race, has appeared in numerous productions. She also has performed at events and coffee houses with jazz guitarist Larry Marotta, who will accompany her repertoire of jazz standards.

Biales is a singer/songwriter with six albums to her credit. As half of the duo Prairie Orchard (with Sarah Goslee Reed), she was awarded Best Album of the Year by the Children’s Music Web Association. Biales, who incorporates jazz, blues and folk into her original music, will be accompanied by her musical partner Doug Hamilton, a long-time Nashville fiddler.
