WBZI now heard on FM 100.3

When the FCC recently offered AM broadcasters the chance to purchase FM translator licenses which would expand their local coverage, Joe Mullins jumped at the opportunity.

Mullins is president and general manager of WBZI, home of Classic Country Radio for the past 15 years at WBZI AM 1500. In the past, the station broadcast to the Xenia/Dayton area with locally produced programming but was restricted to daytime hours.

Today, Jan. 29, Mullins announced the new FM position and expansion.

“Our commitment to serving our loyal listeners and the communities we reach has never been stronger, even in an era when local broadcasting is losing ground nationwide,” he stated. “We made the investment in Web casting a few years ago and can be heard on line at www.myclassiccountry.com in addition to AM 1500. We are now thankful to announce our FM position at 100.3, which will be programmed 24 hours a day.”

The signal, which broadcasts the same programming as AM 1500 WBZI’s Classic Country Radio Format, reaches Greene County and much of the Dayton/Springfield region and includes a mix of country oldies, new and classic bluegrass music and traditional gospel music.

It also includes Tradin’ Post, the weekday classifieds show. Among the longtime local personalities are Bucks Braun, Roy Hatfield, Greg Gabbard Chubby Howard and Mullins.

Evening hours will now include music, news, weather and event coverage as well as high school sports coverage beginning with the 2010 football season.

From their headquarters at 23 E. Second St. Xenia, the Classic Country Radio team also owns and programs the local stations for Clinton County, WKFI AM 1090, and Preble County, WEDI AM 1130.
