It’s been 14 years since Simon Cowell brought four singing strangers together to form Il Divo. His instincts were spot on. The platinum-selling vocal group, bringing its Best Of Tour to Fraze Pavilion in Kettering on Tuesday, Sept. 5, has sold more than 30-million albums and filled venues around the world.

Urs Buhler recently answered some questions about Il Divo, which also features vocalists Sebastien Izambard, Carlos Marin and David Miller.

Q: What can fans expect from Best Of Tour?

A: “You’re going to get 90 minutes of pure Il Divo this time. We tried to pick the public favorites we’ve done in our career. We’ll be playing stuff that goes through all the albums we’ve released over the last 14 years. It’s a lot of our four voices, a lot of beautiful music, a lot of romance and a lot of Il Divo.”

Q: How is it different than the previous tour?

A: “Last year we did ‘Amor & Pasión,’ which was based around our album of all Latin standards. That was a big spectacle with dancers and solo numbers and instruments and all that kind of stuff on stage. What we’ve noticed is a lot of fans have been asking for something that really goes back to the essence of Il Divo, which is just the four of us and our voices and the best of our repertoire and that’s exactly what we’re intending to give everybody on this tour.”

Q: What’s the status of the next album?

A: “We’re working on that now. We’ve just about finished the song list. I don’t want to give too much away since we’re going to be touring for the next couple of months. Then we’re probably going to go in the studio in November or December. We’re not following up on the concept of Latin music. Again, we wanted to take Il Divo a bit back to its basics, which is the voices and great, great music. Right now we’re just trying to find the greatest repertoire we could find.”

Q: What keeps you four working together?

A: “It’s still a lot of fun to stand on stage together. Each one of us loves nothing more than singing and Il Divo gives us a great platform for that. Even though it has obviously been difficult and very intense at times, we’ve achieved massive success with the band. As long as we’re successful, we’d be fools to throw that away. We’re having a ball and that’s why we keep going.”
