‘Modern Marvels’ to feature Jungle Jim’s

FAIRFIELD — Jungle Jim’s International Market will be one of six mega stores highlighted on the History Channel’s “Modern Marvels,” airing at 9 p.m. Friday.

Jimmy Bonaminio, Jungle Jim’s creative director, said employees are anticipating Friday evening and have been working to inform the public of the show through posters around the store, street signs and on the “JungleTron.” Although excited, employees won’t be gathering to watch the show together.

“We haven’t planned on it. We were all involved before, so now we’re just waiting to see it,” he said.

In July, Randall Shuptrine, the segment producer, said shooting the grocery store was difficult.

“This is especially challenging because it’s so big,” he said. Jungle Jim’s is 300,000 square feet and offers over 150,000 items from 75 different countries.

The crew shot a variety of aspects, promotions manager Debby Hartinger said in July, including the store’s seafood and meat departments, The Jungle Jim workshop and the live fish harvest process.

“Modern Marvels” is a documentary series that features how technologies affect and are used in today’s society.
