Yee-haw! The first annual Dayton Barbecue Rodeo is coming to town Saturday, April 9.
Presented by Smokin’ Bee-Bee-Q and partnering with Eudora Brewing Company, the event will take place noon-8 p.m. at The “Old” Yellow Cab Building at 700 E. Fourth St. in downtown Dayton.
“We are a catering and competition BBQ team,” said Jeff Stringer from Smokin’ Bee-Bee Q. “We travel to events all over Ohio and surrounding states for BBQ events. We thought, why not have one in our hometown that people can enjoy?”
Participating barbecue food trucks include Smokinbeebeeq, PA’S Pork, Texas Beef and Cattle Company, Hogaholic BBQ, Big Willies Barbecue, The Beerded Pig, Jim Dandy’s Family BBQ and Dayton Urban BBQ.
“I’ve asked each team to be able to bring their smokers to cook on site as well as provide one dish each that they think nobody else would come up with,” Stringer said. “It is for whole families with dessert vendors and also a vendor who takes jalapeños to a whole new level.”
A people’s pork choic pulled pork competition will be held from noon-2 p.m.; attendees will vote for the best pulled pork based on eight samples in a blind taste test.
In addition to beer and full menus of barbecue, ribs, chicken and sides like mac and cheese, several other food trucks will be on hand to offer desserts: Smoothie King, Fronana, Sweet P’s Handcrafted Ice Pops and Ginniebug Creations.
Live music will be provided by Christopher Salyer, 2-4 p.m.; The Back Talk Blues Band, 4-6 p.m. and Honey and Houston, 6-8 p.m.
Entry fee is $2 at the door, free for kids under 12. “BBQ prices will vary from $5 to $20, with about every kind of BBQ you can imagine,” Stringer said.
