Barney is having a birthday party and everyone is invited.
The familiar purple dinosaur will celebrate with Baby Bop, BJ and the rest of his friends at the “Barney Live in Concert – Birthday Bash!” The interactive live stage production, in its inaugural season of nationwide touring, will be at Hara Arena for two performances on Thursday, Feb. 24.
“It’s an original music concert party event like never seen before, sort of like a rock concert for kids,” said Alyssa Ebel with family entertainment company VEE Corporation. “The show is a musical experience that children and adults alike can enjoy together. We’re very excited to bring Barney and his friends to Dayton.”
Kids and their parents can sing along to familiar favorites such as “If You’re Happy and You Know It” and the “Wheels on the Bus” as well as “Barney & Friends” tunes like the “Baby Bop Hop” and “The Dino Dance.” The 70-minute show is tailored to young Barney fans from 1-4 years old but, with 25 musical performances, is fast-paced enough for older siblings, moms and dads.
Barney was the creation of one such mom when Texas school teacher Sheryl Leach created an educational character for her, then, 2-year-old son Patrick in 1988. It was Patrick’s love of dinosaurs that transformed his mom’s original character from a bear to the furry and fun-loving dinosaur that has entertained children around the world for more than two decades.
“Barney & Friends” debuted on PBS in 1992 and still airs daily on PBS stations and PBS KIDS Sprout, a 24-hour preschool channel. A few cast members, including Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez, have even graduated to prominent roles on the Disney Channel and in feature films.
But whether Barney is on the air or on stage, the lessons are the same as everyone’s favorite purple dinosaur promotes positive values and good manners all while having a “Stu-u-u-pendous” good time.
