OXFORD — Local food and beer lovers will soon have the chance to take their tastebuds on the road at a travel-themed food and beer pairing at The Miami Inn Tavern in Oxford.
“We are ending our second season of wine and beer pairing events and this one includes a tour of regional beers and home town American dishes that are a bit lighter due to the summertime heat,” said Kathy Crowley, marketing director of the tavern and Marcum Conference Center.
The event is set for Aug. 13 and the menu features a five-course meal prepared by chef Ginny Theill. The evening begins with a fried green tomato Napoleon with corn salad and buttermilk dressing paired with a New Holland, Kolsch-Style, Full Circle beer from Michigan. A chicken and summer vegetable gumbo with andouille and spiced shrimp with cucumber vinaigrette and California basmati blini paired with beers from Louisiana and California will make up courses two and three.
Next comes a Reserve Run slider with Grafton cheddar, caramelized onions and an Otter Creek Pale Ale from Vermont. Dessert includes an apricot or peach tart with a chilled peach bisque shooter and a strong golden ale from Colorado.
“All of our events are very local, drawing area food, wine and beer lovers and using as much local produce and product as we can,” Crowley said.
She said vegetarian, vegan or other special menus are available with proper notice.
Crowley said the third season of the Tavern’s wine, beer and food pairing series will kick off this fall with a family-style wine and dining experience. The winter dinner will be a wine event with a focus on Asian cuisine.
Next spring will include an Earth Day celebration with appropriate wines and foods and next summer’s annual beer tasting event will feature a picnic-style menu served at the newly-remodeled Marcum Conference Center courtyard.
