Dairy Queen locations — well, most of them, anyway — will celebrate the first day of spring on Monday, March 20, by offering a free ice cream cone.

Customers can obtain a free small vanilla soft-serve cone, limit one per customer, at participating locations, while supplies last.

We made a few phone calls late Sunday afternoon and found out that most — but not all — local franchise-owned Dairy Queen stores are participating in the Free Cone Day promotion — and there may be some locations that are not yet open for the season.

Stores that confirmed to us that they ARE participating included locations at 2056 E. Dorothy Lane in Kettering, 4812 Airway Road in Riverside, and 513 W. Main St. in Tipp City, as well as Dairy Queens in Lebanon and Carlisle. In Springfield, we found one that was participating — at 721 Bechtle Ave. — and one that was NOT participating, at 215 E. Home Road.

In conjunction with its third annual Free Cone Day Promotion, Dairy Queen today will accept donations to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals on March 20. In 2016, Dairy Queen raised more than $200,000 in one day for the hospital network, DQ officials said in a release.
