WEEKNIGHT ADVENTURE: Kayak through downtown Dayton at special event

Ready for a river adventure? The staff at Five Rivers MetroParks are ready to lead you on a water escapade along the Mad River and the Great Miami River.

On Wednesday, June 6, at 5:30 p.m., the MetroParks staff and attendees will set off on their aquatic trek on the two rivers.

Through two whitewater features of RiverScape River Runs, kayakers will see and experience our city from a different perspective.

There is a chance of tip over while kayaking, and patrons will be getting wet — so dress for the occasion, including wearing water shoes or old sneakers. The trip will include paddling through Class II-III whitewater rapids (novice/intermediate), requiring active paddling through some of the venture.

This trip is weather dependent and currently has 7 open registration spots. The cost to register is $30 per person. The deadline to register is June 6.

Allen Johnson of Dayton took this photo on May 14 in Dayton at RiverScape River Run, the new kayaking attraction downtown at RiverScape MetroPark. Johnson says, “While I was biking I saw a great blue heron watching the kayakers by the low dam. It seemed to enjoy the increased kayaking activity resulting from the new whitewater passage.”
