This year's service marks the 78th anniversary of the event, and will  begin at 6:30 a.m., the very same time the first Easter Sunrise Service was held at the Deeds Carillon on April 5, 1942.

In attendance at that inaugural service were Carillon Historical Park founders Edward A. and Edith Walton Deeds.

The April 1942 edition of the “NCR Factory News” describes that event: “As dawn broke on Sunday morning, April 5, the first Easter Service was held at the Deeds Carillon. An estimated crowd of 10,000 made the pilgrimage by automobile, bus and on foot.”
