FAIRFIELD — If you’re a fan of some of the area’s better known bands, the Sacred Heart Festival is for you.

The Aug. 13-15 event includes popular covers rock band the Rusty Griswolds from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 15. The rock band DV8 plays from 8 p.m. to midnight on Friday, Aug. 13, and classic/modern rock group Kick the Habit plays from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14.

“I like to think we’ve boosted up the entertainment acts over the years,” said festival co-chair Jim Schultheiss.

New this year is a ride bracelet, which offers unlimited rides for $10 from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday only. Kids can ride all day from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday for $15, said co-chair Matt Miller.

Neither Miller nor Schultheiss had attendance figures, but Miller said, “It’s pretty safe to say this is the biggest festival (in Fairfield), right behind Red, White and Kaboom. It’s just an event that has something to offer everybody.”

Another benefit is that “there’s plenty of parking, and lots of our peers don’t have that luxury,” Schultheiss said.

In addition to the usual festival fare of funnel cakes, hamburgers and hot dogs, each day offers a specialty food: Aug. 13 will have the traditional fish fry, Aug. 14 will offer pulled pork sandwiches, and Aug. 15 will bring a chicken dinner from Rib City.

Numerous games will also be on hand, including a 45-foot-long cornhole board.

The annual classic car cruise-in will be that Sunday afternoon.
