2) MOZART’S ‘REQUIEM’
This weekend, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra is presenting two different interpretations of "Mozart's Requiem" at the Schuster Center, Second and Main streets, Dayton. The Masterworks Series concerts at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 2 and 3, will showcase the traditional version of the piece with the DPO Chorus plus a presentation of Mozart's "Oboe Concerto" featuring oboe soloist Eileen Whalen. 3) TROY STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL
The Strawberry Festival has long been regarded as one of the region's premiere events. That fact was driven home recently when it was voted the best festival in the state by the readers of "Ohio Magazine." The 41st annual event returns to Main and Market streets, Troy, on Saturday and Sunday, June 3 and 4. The Strawberry Festival features a parade, the Little Miss & Mr. Pageant, the 10K Classic, Diaper Derby, live music and more than 250 booths featuring arts and crafts, food and plenty of tasty strawberry dishes. 4) LYNYRD SKYNYRD
Lynyrd Skynyrd's career could've been over after the tragic 1977 plane crash the killed band members Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines. However, the continuing popularity of the Florida band's music inspired founding members Gary Rossington and Allen Collins to resurrect Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1986 with Johnny Van Zant replacing his late brother as lead singer. More than 30 years later, the pioneering Southern rock band continues to perform for enthusiastic audiences. Joan Baez, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Amy Ray and Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls have performed together periodically as Four Voices since coming together for the first time in 1991. Bethany Thompson was an 11-year-old cancer survivor when extensive bullying caused her to take her own life in October 2016. 8) SAMMY HAGAR
When Sammy Hagar decided to put together a band to perform material from his four-decade career, he turned to some heavy hitters that are also longtime friends. The super group, dubbed the Circle, features former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, Jason Bonham, son of late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, and longtime Hagar guitarist Vic Johnson.
