“We’re all over the place,” Winslow said. “I’ve got to pay attention to everybody nowadays. We just finished two months between Slovenia, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, so it’s a world thing now.
“Everybody goes to see ‘Avatar,’ and it’s the same thing with the international market,” he continued. “It just seems right now people are paying attention to noises and sci-fi, so people are coming to the live shows. I’m glad to see them. And it’s very odd to get used to, but I don’t have a language barrier problem overseas.”
Winslow, who appeared in all seven “Police Academy” movies, says the worldwide popularity of the comedy franchise has enhanced his international appeal.
“Yeah, ‘Police Academy’ is a pretty universal subject,” he said. Everybody has cops and all cops are human, so I think it’s great to show humanity’s side. Plus, nobody ever gets killed in ‘Police Academy,’ which has endeared us to a lot of people.”
“The exec wants to see No. 8 happen and so do I,” Winslow added. “Steve Guttenberg said he wants to do it. I want to see it happen because I want to see everybody again.”
Winslow, who performs at the Funny Bone Comedy Club on Friday through Sunday, Jan. 29-31, is touring heavily. He also has a number of projects in the works, including a children’s DVD co-produced by Bill Cosby.
“I learned a long time ago that you generate your own wake, so we have no choice but to go out there and do what we can,” Winslow said. “Lucky for us, we’ve got some good things happening right now.”
