The very first J. Crew Mercantile store coming to the Dayton area will be opening at The Greene Town Center in Beavercreek. Other new tenants to join The Greene this summer will be Ulta Beauty, World of Beer and Mattress Firm, as reported Tuesday by the Dayton Daily News.

The J. Crew Mercantile brand is relatively new. The first store opened last summer in Dallas. According to the J. Crew Mercantile website, its stores feature “a collection of original styles once only found at J. Crew Factory stores.” A handful of Mercantile stores have opened, with more in the works.

While J. Crew Factory stores are located in outlet malls (such as in Tanger Outlets in Jeffersonville) and often a considerable drive for most shoppers, the Mercantile stores are conveniently located in shopping centers and offer the same merchandise found in the Factory stores: basic J. Crew styles as well as last season's designs made out of budget-friendly fabric and other materials.

J. Crew Mercantile stores are different from J. Crew Retail stores, which specialize in the latest, high-end fashions and are located in larger cities, such as Cincinnati, Columbus and Indianapolis.

To illustrate the difference, consider these imperfect comparisons:

A women’s long-sleeved stretch perfect button-down shirt in classic stripes at J. Crew Retail costs $69.50. In contrast, a long-sleeved factory classic button-down shirt in classic stripes valued at $59.50 costs $29.50 at J. Crew Factory and Mercantile stores.

A Cary mini-wedge sandal in plaid at J. Crew Retail costs $158. In contrast, a Factory Crackle demi-wedge sandal valued at $98 costs $49 at J. Crew Factory and Mercantile stores.

Price-conscious shoppers will find chambray shirts, men’s shirts, cardigans, party dresses, blazers, suits, sandals and more at J. Crew Mercantile.
