Princess costume basics might already be in the house. Other clothing items can be used to help transform your little girl into a little princess in no time.
Bodysuits are a good start for lots of costumes. A plain bodysuit used for gymnastics or ballet can be trimmed inexpensively with faux jewels, glitter or sequins from a craft or fabric store and requires little more than fabric glue.
Ballet skirts, tutus or anything tulle can be used as princess apparel. The same rule applies as far as accessorizing. A sequined waistband can be added and small jewels or, even, sparkly buttons, can be added to decorate the skirt.
It takes only a small amount of fabric, preferably something frilly, to fashion a cape and no sewing required. The fabric, can be gathered at the neck and fastened with a brooch. Faux fur can be glued on for trim.
Headwear is critical for a princess. The easy way out is a trip to a dollar store where you could pick up a plastic tiara and, possibly, a wand or scepter, for just a few dollars. Sequins or jewels can also be glued onto a simple headband.
Poster board, heavy weight craft paper or construction paper can be used to make a crown. Measure your child’s head with a measuring tape (around the forehead to the back of the head) and then cut the paper an inch longer. Use a pencil to draw the shape of the crown, pointy or rounded, and then cut out the crown design. Attach plastic jewels, color with markers or use glitter or stickers to decorate. Tape the back and you are ready to go.
