3 important dates that shaped Dayton's skyline

By the mid-1960s, it had been awhile since Dayton's skyline changed much. Planners were antsy.

So they developed and built the Grant-Deneau Tower, the city's first modern skyscraper, at the corner of Fourth and Ludlow streets. That led to a revolution of how others saw Dayton.

Here are some important dates in how it all came together:

1. 1931. The last time a building of more than 15 floors was built in Dayton before the 22-floor Grant-Deneau Tower.

2. 1968. Construction began on the Grant-Deneau Tower at the site of the Keith theater building built in 1922.

3. 1971. Work is completed on the Winters Bank Tower (now called the Kettering Tower), which eclipsed the Grant-Deneau Tower as Dayton's tallest building.
