Saturday sales
The Treasure Barn conducts one Saturday sale every six weeks. The next sale is scheduled from 9 a .m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 27.
MONROE — Antique rugs and furniture, glass and kitchen wares are just a few of the items that can be found at Treasure Barn.
The retail shop, located on the campus of Mount Pleasant Retirement Village on Seminary Drive, has merchandise donated by friends and family members associated with the village or residents and outside donors, said Dot Wieneke, co-chairman of Treasure Barn along with Shirley Smith.
The facility features a showcase corner with high-end merchandise. Some items on display there include a Chinese chest for $125, a solid oak table for $1,200 and Hansel and Gretel dolls that had previously sold for $125 each, but are now negotiable.
“We try to keep our prices within reason so people don’t think they have to barter because there are good prices. We do research so that we know what our prices should be and then we try to keep them a little under that,” she said.
“The object of this place is to move stuff. We don’t want to keep it forever. We want it to go out and be somebody elses treasure.”
The facility, staffed by volunteers, which is open for donations and sales on Monday’s from 9 a.m. to noon and Thursday’s 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Mike Kuth, whose mother is a resident at Mount Pleasant, has been volunteering at the facility for 10 years.
“I just like to come over here and look at the stuff. I’ve always enjoyed dong that,” said the Middletown native and Monroe resident.
Proceeds from sales are used on campus for capitol improvements like purchasing chairs for the campus Chapel and Activity Building, said Wieneke’s husband, Robert, who serves as treasurer of the facility’s community fund.
