Vandalia's Kelley King is making formal funky

Playing dress up never gets old for Kelley King, a University of Dayton student. In fact, the Vandalia native has made it her passion.

Vandalia’s Kelley King can not bring herself to dress down regularly.

“I am not a jeans and T-shirt kind of person,” said the University of Dayton student studying education, media and English. “I like to dress up.”

And when it comes to shoes, the former WDTN reporting intern won’t let a little pain in the feet get in the way.

“Shoes are my weakness,” King said. “I will suffer for my shoes.”

She was nominated for Miami Valley Style by Barbara Pontecorvo, her former instructor at downtown Dayton’s Pontecorvo Ballet Studios. King started dancing at 5 and still laces up her pointe shoes for fun and exercise.

“I’ve never gone into jazz or hip-hop (dance). I’ve always been a ballet girl,” said King who survived childhood onset leukemia. “It is classic.”

As for her outfits, the busy 22-year-old is drawn toward classic looks with bold, funky elements.

A fanatic for pink and a frequent Macy’s shopper, the student teacher is almost always sporting a bracelet.

“I like big bracelets,” King said. “Even when you can’t find clothes, you can find a piece of jewelry.”
