Huber Heights football player tests positive for coronavirus

A Huber Heights football player has tested positive for the coronavirus, prompting the athletic department to cancel all football program activities until the end of the month.

Nate Baker, the director of the athletic program, sent out a media release announcing the newest positive case. This is the fourth known positive case and first student to test positive in the district, Baker said in the release.

The football player was tested Thursday, July 16, and did not display symptoms at the time, Baker said. The football team had their most recent training session on Thursday, July 16.

A football coach tested positive for the virus last week. The two other cases were central office staff.

The Huber Heights City Schools Athletic Department and football program have canceled all upcoming football activities until July 31.

On July 31, the football team will be permitted to return only if they have remained asymptomatic.

“Though a (coronavirus) test is not required, we encourage all members to have a test so they can have certainty of their medical situation,” Baker said in the release.

Baker also asked that the Huber Heights community do everything to isolate at home and wear a mask when in public.

“This is the only way we will be able to help flatten the curve and have the possibility of getting back to a healthy environment for fall sports,” the statement said.
