UPDATE: Squirrel causes thousands to lose power in Montgomery County

Service has been restored to thousands of AES Ohio customers in Montgomery County after a squirrel damaged equipment Monday morning.

As of 8:21 a.m., there were 5,987 total AES Ohio customers without power, according to the AES Ohio Outage Map. Montgomery County had 5,938 outages with the majority in the Centerville area near Interstate 675.

By 8:51 a.m., only 94 outages remained in the county.

“Customers in Centerville will be restored soon; a squirrel caused damage to our equipment resulting in lockout to a large area,” AES Ohio tweeted around 8:45 a.m. “Thank you for you patience as crews quickly and safely restore power.”
