Over 1K still in dark after strong storms, high winds earlier this week

Over 1,000 customers remained in the dark early Saturday after storms and high winds charged through the region Thursday night and early Friday morning, knocking down power lines and trees.

The severe storm with 60-plus mph wind gusts led to about 30,000 customers without power, AES Ohio reported. As of 2:20 p.m., the utility company, formerly known as Dayton Power & Light, reported more than 3,700 outages, mostly concentrated in Montgomery, Greene and Champaign counties.

By 9 p.m. Friday, the majority of the 918 outages reported by AES Ohio, Ohio Edison and Duke Energy were in Montgomery County.

As of 4 a.m. on Saturday morning, both Ohio Edison and Duke Energy said they resolved all their outages. AES Ohio, though reported just over 1,000 customers in our area were still without power, about half of which were contained in one large outage in Champaign County.
