According to Sgt. Bradley Hess with the OSHP Dayton Post, troopers received initial reports of a jackknifed semi on the ramp and found the semi on its side.
The semi was northbound on I-75 and overturned while taking the ramp to I-70, which caused hundreds of piglets to escape the trailer onto the roadway, the patrol said.
Troopers spent some time getting the piglets corralled with bystanders, and at around 9:45 p.m. another semi from the same company as the first was on scene transferring the piglets.

The roadway including the ramp to I-70 West was closed for nearly five hours while the scene was cleared.
Hess said that some of the piglets were killed in the crash, and a handful may be unaccounted for.

The Vandalia Police Division, Butler Twp. Fire Department, Reid Health Emergency Medical Services, Sandy’s Towing & Recovery and the Ohio Department of Transportation were all on scene.
The highway patrol believes that speed was the cause of the crash, Hess said, and the driver was not injured.
The driver was cited for failure to control.
