Workspaces spotlight: Female-owned Asphalt maintenance company thrives

Jackie Clark is the owner of Asphalt Sealcoaters

Describe your company: At Asphalt Sealcoaters we provide high quality line striping and expert pavement maintenance. We specialize in sealcoating, asphalt repairs, pavement maintenance, parking lot striping, and pothole and crack repair. We are also the leader in the Dayton area in repairing recreational surfaces like, tennis courts and basketball courts.

When was the company founded and how did it get started? The original company was started in the late 1960s by my grandfather, Harold Moyer and a Mr. Cantrell. In 1976 my father, Michael Moyer bought out Mr. Cantrell, my father and grandfather then changed the business name to Asphalt Sealcoaters of Dayton. I was brought into the company as a estimator in 1991, and have worked my way up, then in 2014 I bought Asphalt Sealcoaters turning it into one of the few female-owned Aspahlt maintenance companies.

How many employees? 8

How has the company grown? Over the years we have grown Asphalt Sealcoaters from a small business to a leader in the Dayton and surrounding areas by being committed to completing high quality work with the newest and most innovative technology at fair prices.

Describe your job: Being a small business owner you have to wear many different hats. Just a few hats that I wear include, sales and estimates, scheduling, billing, and ordering and picking up supplies. The list could go on and on depending on the day.

What’s unique about your workspace? It’s different everyday. Of course I have an office that I work out of, but I’m out of the office at least half of my day doing estimates. So, my car has turned into my second office, which is great since I don’t like having to be cooped up in my office all day.

What is the one thing in your workspace I can’t work without? My measuring wheel, I don’t go anywhere without it.

What’s your secret to success? I love to build a relationship with each client, I find that when I do that, I not only make a customer for life but also a new friend. Excellent customer service is the key to every business, and realizing that it’s okay when you don’t get that contract you worked really hard for.
