2 arraigned after synthetic drugs seized from area smoke shop

Two people accused of trafficking drugs from a smoke shop in the Oregon District were arraigned today.

Donald and Elizabeth Smith were arraigned today on 23 counts each, including charges of drug trafficking and aggravated possession of drugs. Donald Smith was listed as the owner of the Oregon Smoke Shop, where a synthetic drug raid took place in March, 2012. They were taken into custody following the arraignment.

Several undercover purchases were made at the store leading up the execution of a search warrant on March 7, 2012, according to a report. Those included purchases of bath salts and synthetic marijuana by an informant and a purchase of bath salts by an undercover officer. Police also witnessed several transactions involving both products.

The report also reveals the exact products that were seized. They include: 1,087 units of “Eight Ballz Ultra Premium Glass Cleaner,” a “bath salts” product with a chemical structure similar to Mthylone, a schedule I drug under the Ohio Revised Code since October 2011.

The bath salts were packaged in clear vials containing one gram of white powder each for $40, according to reports. Also seized were 1,282 units of synthetic cannabanoids, sold in one-gram packs under the names of AK-47 and Mad Hatter, according to reports.
