Arrest Made In Flowerama Burglary

An investigation into a flower shop robbery came up smelling like roses after an arrest was made in less than a day.

Police in Riverside arrested a teen and may charge two others for their part in a July 4 break-in at the Flowerama shop located near Woodman and Burkhardt.

Police said the front door was missing and glass cooler doors were shattered by a softball-sized rock. Officers said employees also found that the business' money was missing.

Authorities said the robbers responsible for the break-in threw a rock through a side window and waited for an audible alarm to sound. They said when the alarm did not sound, the robber went to the front door and made his way in.

One employee said close to $500 will have to be replaced. Shalena Didonato said the loss of the money and the costs of repairs add up for small business. She said it will be difficult for the store to arrange all their bills.

Investigators began making progress in the case within the first few hours. They zeroed in on a 16-year-old that dated a girl that worked at the store.

Officers said the teen had been around enough at closing time to know where they money was kept.

Officer David McGreevy said police arrested the teen for the break-in and the theft. He said two other teens may face charges for accepting money taken from the business.

Police said the teen is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center for breaking and entering. They said he was already on probation after being found guilty of a burglary in Riverside about six months ago.
