Back To School - August 17, 2008

This episode of WHIO Reports focuses on children going back to school. School is just a few weeks away for some school districts and this show discusses issues that come up within households with how to prepare for going back to school. The guests offer many great suggestions on how to ready to head back to school. Lisa discusses how the schools within the Xenia area get ready for children to head back to school. She mentions that their school district passes out supply lists for the children on the last day of school so they will know well in advance what they need for the next school year. The lists are also available at local retailers so it's eady for parents to get if their child loses the list or forgets it the day they go shopping. Lynn discusses how using the last year's supplies is totally fine. She mentions that parents do not have to spend a ton of money on classroom supplies or that their child has to have the best and newest supplies. If supplies are in good shape, there is nothing wrong with using them from the previous year. Tracey focuses on how to mentally prepare children for the school year. She speaks about setting special times for "quiet time" to prepare for bedtime each night and special times for homework. It's a good idea to start practicing these times before the school year begins. All three guests speak about how important family is, especially parents and grandparents when it comes to keeping open communication with the school or schools about how children are doing and what the family can do to keep the year running smoothly.
