Bathtub murder trial nears end in Lebanon

LEBANON, Ohio (AP) -- Defense attorneys are urging jurors in an Ohio man's third trial not to follow authorities they say jumped to conclusions in charging him with murder in his wife's 2008 drowning in their bathtub. The defense said in closing arguments Monday that investigators made assumptions and mistakes. Prosecutors counter that the only reasonable conclusion is that 30-year-old Ryan Widmer is guilty. Jurors in southwest Ohio's Warren County will get the case following closings that began Monday morning in a packed courtroom. Prosecutors have asked for the first time that jurors also consider the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter in 24-year-old Sarah Widmer's death. Widmer's murder conviction from his first trial was thrown out by a judge because of juror misconduct. The second trial ended in a hung jury.
