1951: Eight Air Force fighters crash in the area around Richmond on June 9. 1952: 20th Century Bridge opens, replacing the old Doran Bridge. 1956: Richmond Celebrates its sesquicenteenial. 1965: Phone company fire. 1966: First appearance of Morrisson-Reeves Library's bookmobile. 1968: Explosion levels downtown, killing 41 people. 1969: Municipal Building opens. 1970: Frank Sinatra and Jerry Lewis perform a benefit at Civic Hall to benefit the children of former police chief Dan Mitrione. 1972: Promenade opens. 1975: Current Morrisson-Reeves Library opens. 1975: First IU East building opens. 1982: Kulhman Center opnes. 1985: Tiernan Center opens. 1992: RHS State Basketball champs. 1993: Civic Hall Performing Arts Center opens. 1997: Main Street reopened to traffic. 1999: Swayne Robinson foundry burns. 2000: U.S. 40 bridge opens, old Main Street bridge closes. 2004: New Main Street bridge opens. 2004: New Wayne County Sheriff's Office and Correctional Center opens on the former site of the Swayne Robinson Foundry. 2005: Bicentennial Celebration begins in August.
