Three men from area gave their all at the dawn, middle and end of the Second World War, earing the nation's highest military honor. The trio tell the story of the region's contribution in helping end the world's most destructive conflict.

In honor of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, we are profiling these three men from the Miami Valley:

Tony Stein: Killed in action on March 1, 1945 on Volcano Islands, Iwo Jima, Japan.

James Richard Ward: Killed in action on Dec. 7, 1941 during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Patrick L. Kessler: Killed in action on May 23, 1944 near Ponte Rotto, Italy.
